Le Cordon Bleu - Are You Serious?
How much
time and effort do you want to invest is key when choosing any culinary arts school, bearing in
mind many schools require long hours of study with strict timetables, perhaps a must to become a
Chef of excellence. Alternatively, a longer course or night school may be the way to
go.
Whilst there are
numerous culinary centres of learning across the US, many of the best culinary arts schools are
to be found in centres of excellence such as California, Connecticut and Long Island. If you
live in or near New England or California, then you shouldn’t have to travel far to find a good
school. However if you don’t, it goes without saying that if you’re prepared to travel you will
find more culinary institutes than you would locally.
Pastry Chef
anyone?
Techniques that chefs
employ will differ greatly depending on which cuisine they are working with, be it Italian,
French or Oriental for example. Consequently this too will affect your choice of culinary arts
school by the subjects it offers, be it one specialist cuisine, or a mix of several. Therefore
knowing you’re key interest will be a factor to determining you’re future.
Affordability
Money will play a large part in you’re choice of subject and you will have to accept that some
of the top culinary arts schools command a higher price. A career as an elite chef can be yours as
long as you budget accordingly and plan ahead. Knowing in advance what you can afford will help you
choose the right school, chosen cuisine and culinary classes.
